Sometimes life just throws things at us to watch our reaction. The pink slip at the end of the day, the lover who walks away, the death of the familiar. No warning. Boom like a slap across the face without expectations or warning. It may feel like the heart is shattered into a thousand pieces. We wonder why and may kick and scream and are consoled that these are lessons for our benefit.

In disbelief we try to push forward but only to find ourselves on the floor, crawled up into a scared ball with an eternally inflamed nervous system that refuses to be extinguished by the torrent of tears. We feel that lying on the ground will mean staying down and giving up a part of ourselves.

Then a little silent voice whispers that “ you will be okay”. And with a deep solemn breath we slowly and great effort drudgingly learn to stand again. We desperately pick up the pieces of this broken heart, trying to hold onto each fragment of the once glass temple of our lives. With each step we rise up higher and higher till one day we look up at the vengeful sky and with humility and honesty reply “ I am stronger and braver than I look, hit me with your best shot, there is more where that came from, I got this”.

It is when we feel that we want to just die at the rock bottom, we fight the hardest, for we do not want to kill ourselves, but just the part that hurts. It is here where we realize that we have been changed a lot by the pain, but now ready to be changed by love.

Remember there is always someone who has shared the same pain, the same love, and the same laughter as us. We are never alone, and so we dare not share that pain alone, for in those depths where and when life feels weakest and the bleakest, there comes a helping hand in the form of a friend or a stranger to bring us back. This is the support of the universe, the hand of God, the strength of love to guide us home.

……………

I love you
