A surprise turn of gratitude.

I was in the office the other day seeing patients. One such encounter totally went unexpected. I have known her for many years, and it was a delight to see her healthy during this covid 19 era having survived and been doing well.

We talked for a while and I was grateful for having had the opportunity to be able to connect with her. I inquired as to how she had kept her self busy. She informed me of the wonderful quilting that she had been completely engrossed in for the last several months. She spun and unfolded the lovely story of each item that she had designed and made.

It was a privilege to be able to listen the fascinating tales of how people have been keeping themselves active and busy while at home. Keeping busy is one thing, but keeping themselves inspired in activities that make them feel alive is quite the other.

I enjoy hearing these encounters.

We finished up and we noted the next time to set up a visit and I started moving towards the door.

“ Hang on a minute” I heard from the chair.

I turned around and she proceeded to get up. She pulled out a back hidden under chair and as if by magic pulled out 3 beautiful table runners that she had quilted. Each one more unique than the next.

I was marveled at the intricacies and her attention to detail. The mix of colors and threads beautifully interwoven with care and delight. She explained the story of each one, and each one had a story. I listened intently.

she stopped after the explanation and turned to me and said “ Pick one, its yours !”

My jaw dropped, and my heart opened up as my eyes started to swell with gratitude. I picked one. I gently folded it up and thanked her for her offering with love.

The best encounters are those that are simple derived from listening, sharing and caring. She healed me more than she knows with this lovely gift.
